Ladera Ranch residents looking for a hands-on way to connect with neighbors and learn how food is grown can now join the Heritage Farm Resident Farmer Program.
The inaugural season runs through February 2027 at Heritage Farm on McGwire Road. The program is designed for residents of all ages and experience levels, so participants do not need a gardening background to get involved.
Heritage Farm follows regenerative and organic growing methods intended to build healthy soil and produce fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. Professional farmers guide participants through practical tasks such as planting, pruning, composting, propagation, irrigation and seasonal garden care.
The commitment is intentionally flexible. Resident farmers are asked to volunteer for at least two hours per month, with opportunities to participate more often when schedules allow. Shifts are offered throughout the week, including most Saturdays.
After registering, participants receive access to VolunteerMark, the scheduling platform used to view available shifts, register for opportunities, track hours and receive program updates. Fresh harvests are shared at the end of farming shifts, adding a tangible reward to the learning and volunteer experience.
The program also includes seasonal gatherings, workshops, potlucks, special events and occasional U-Pick experiences. Families are welcome, and the farm team can help match volunteers with tasks suited to their interests, abilities and comfort levels.
Beyond learning to grow food, participants will have an opportunity to help shape traditions at one of Ladera Ranch's newer community amenities. Future seasons are expected to run from September through February and from March through August.
For residents who want a recurring local activity without a large weekly commitment, the Resident Farmer Program offers a practical way to spend time outdoors, learn new skills and contribute to a shared community space.
