Rancho Mission Viejo has been named Best New Home Community in the Orange County Register's 2026 Best of Orange County Readers' Choice Awards. It is the sixth time The Ranch has received the honor since the community opened.
The recognition reflects more than new-home design. The Orange County Register highlighted the community's amenities and active RanchLife calendar as important parts of the resident experience.
Among the amenities cited are Ranch Cove's 20,000-square-foot lagoon-style pool, Boulder Pond and Playground with its 3.5-acre pond and half-mile walking path, the 5.5-acre Backyard, South Paw Dog Park and Providence Mission Hospital Sports Park.
More additions are planned. A six-acre park in the Village of Rienda is expected to open in fall 2027 with sports fields, tot lots and a perimeter walking trail. The new Rienda School is planned to open alongside it.
Rancho Mission Viejo and its homebuilding partners also appeared in two other award categories. Trumark Homes and Lennar were recognized in the Best Home Builder category, while Gavilán Ridge placed third for Best Senior Living Community.
Gavilán Ridge is Rancho Mission Viejo's first 55-plus village. Four additional neighborhoods there are scheduled to grand open in early 2027. New all-age homes are currently selling in Rienda's final phase through Trumark Homes, Lennar and Shea Homes.
The award arrives as The Ranch continues balancing residential development with long-term land preservation. At completion, approximately 17,000 acres—about 75% of the historic 23,000-acre ranch—are planned to remain permanently protected as The Nature Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo, supporting habitat conservation as well as continuing ranching and farming operations.
Awards should not replace careful research when choosing a home, but this one offers a useful signal about how residents and readers view the community's overall lifestyle. Buyers should still compare neighborhood rules, property types, builder offerings, taxes, fees and future development plans based on their own needs.
